Thenmala, Kollam

Thenmala is a tourist place near Punalur town and 66 km east of Kollam district . Thenmala is home to India's first planned eco-tourism project. World Tourism Organisation has selected Thenmala as one of the world's best eco-friendly projects and the area is covered by dense forests, rubber and tea plantations. Thenmala has a leisure zone that includes winding pathways, a sway bridge and a boardwalk; a culture zone with an amphitheatre and a musical fountain and an adventure zone.

The Thenmala dam was built across Kallada River. Boating on the lake, a rope bridge, trekking, mountaineering, biking and a musical fountain. Thenmala is approachable both from Trivandrum and Punalur by road. Also it has a deer rehabilitation center where visitors can see deer in a forest setting and have a peep into a traditional tree house used by forest dwellers to escape harm from wild animals. Thenmala is famous for being the shooting location in Malayalam and Tamil movies.Themala is 72 km from Thiruvanathapuram and 16 km from Palaruvi Falls.
