Munnar, Idukki district
 

Munnar, a beautiful, peaceful hill station covered with an unending expanse of tea plantations, is 133 km from Cochin and 148 km from Kottayam, comes under the revenue judirisation of Idukki dist of Kerala state. The place has been termed as "Virgin Munnar" because of its divine natural beauty. Munnar lies at the junction of three mountain streams, namely, Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. The name Munnar is believed to be derived from the Malayalam/Tamil words Munu (three) and aaru (river), referring to the town's strategic location at the confluence of these three rivers.

Munnar has a great exotic flora, including Neelakurinji, a flower which blooms once in twelve years. Munnar is praised as the "Kashmir of the East'. One of the biggest tea plantations in the world - The Kannan Devan Tea Plantation - is situated near to Munnar Town. Munnar is one of the most popular hill-resort towns in India. The Indo-Swiss project, for the development dairy farm is at Mattuppetty, 15kms from Munnar. This place is gifted with natural beauty with the presence of wild animals and boating facilities.
The Munnar panchayat in the Devikulam block is the largest panchayat in the Idukki district having an area measuring nearly 557 km². The Munnar town is well connected to different parts of the country through state highway 17 & 49. The nearest major railway stations are at Ernakulam and Aluva (approximately 110 km by road).
